In 2004 the idea of the National Golf Festival was born on a golf course, amongst friends who just took up golf.
The event was successfully held between 2005-2007 with FNB being the title sponsor. In 2007 the event lasted 7 days with 3 day and 4 day options. That year the event attracted just over 800 golfers playing almost 3,000 rounds of golf.
Unfortunately the event did not continue due to various reasons.
In 2016 the two founding members, who now both resides in George, asked the question; why not revive the event.
They managed to secure an anchor sponsor being The Pro Shop and its associate companies LastMinuteGolf and PlayMoreGolf and the foundry members also invested their own funds into the event.
In 2017 the NGF was again successfully held over 4 days attracting +-350 golfers who played 1,070 rounds of golf.
NGF has a two-fold strategy namely:
- Creating a world-class affordable golfing event that is a highlight on any golfer’s calendar in Africa.
- To promote and market the Garden Route as “Africa’s Home of Golf”.
